Family Involvement

The home-school connection is important to us.  We value strong parent communication with our teachers and encourage our parents’ involvement in their child’s education.  We invite parents into the classroom each morning to participate in our drop off routines, and to be able to check in with their child’s teacher daily.  Each teacher sends home a weekly newsletter describing what the class has worked on that week and what they will be doing the following week – with reminders about upcoming events or any details for the class.  This helps to keep our parents in the loop with what is going on in the classroom each day.

We encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom as a ‘mystery reader’ or planning a ‘special day’ with your child.  Each classroom also has a Room Parent to help with special events and in planning upcoming activities.

We also appreciate our parents’ involvement in the planning and promotion of our social events, fundraising events, and especially A Taste of Charlestown.

Parent Advisory Council

Near the start of the 2017-2018 school year a parent brought the idea to start a Parent Advisory Council to fruition.  The PAC is a group of parents who come together to be a voice from the parents of Good Shepherd School.  This group would work with the Director to provide feedback, lend volunteer support towards community events, and also to support one another in their preschool experience.  The PAC held two community concerts, which were open to the Charlestown Community, and also sponsored two Mom’s Nights Out.  The feedback provided by the PAC allowed our Director to become more aligned with our parents needs and also gave a sounding board towards what events or activities our families actually want.

Consisting of 12 members, the PAC hopes to continue into next year and bring on new members of current parents each year.  If you are interested in joining the Parent Advisory Council, please speak with our Director and she will send you in the right direction!
